{Girl next door:Marilyn Monroe}

I don't know about you, but I love watch old movies. I love to watch the women, in particular, in the old movies. They don't make women like that any more. The women in these movies exuded not only beauty, but elegance and grace. I find these women inspiring and so, every once in awhile I would like shine a little spotlight on these women.

Today's {girl next door} is Marilyn Monroe. These pictures were taken in her early years...wasn't she a natural beauty. I love her simple sense of style.

coffee date: meandering through the crazy

First things first...I've decided to make our coffee dates a weekly thing around here--not sure if i mentioned that before--however, although they will be weekly, that does not mean that will be on the same day every week--afterall, i cannot predict when i will need to sit and have coffee with a friend.

 ok, now that we have got all that out of the way...grab a cup of coffee and pull up a chair--i've got a lot to say.

This week I realized how just how fast the last 10 months flew by...I mean look at my little princess, just 10 months ago.

And look at her now...tear.

She has been crawling around the house like a mad woman...a few days ago she started pushing around this laundry basket--she is itching to walk, which makes me want to cry more. She pushes the basket back and forth, across the living room--she's thinks it's the greatest thing in the world. I wish I could be so easily amused.

Every day she looks more and more like her brother, which makes me want to cry to think of how much he has grown. I mean look at him...

Believe it or not, he once was this small...

...or shall I saw this young, hee, hee...he was never "small".

This week has not been all fun and games...it has been tough...not wanting to get out of bed tough. I've had to deal with some crazy things that involve some crazy people...and I mean crazy. sometimes I just sit and think, really, could it get any worse? and unfortunately, sometimes it does.

and no matter how hard, difficult and crazy last week was there is always a silver lining. and that silver lining was God.

Ever have one of times when God speaks to you loud and clear, and not matter how much you want to ignore you can't. as much as you wish you didn't hear what He was saying, you know you must listen and obey...and obeying can be hard sometimes especially when obeying means trusting...and trusting...oh, it's even harder. if you've know me long, you would know how hard it is for me to trust...it is something i struggle with every single day. and right now, God is call me to trust and i'm scared...scared out of my mind. in the end, I know it is for the best, but i'm just scared...have i also mentioned that i tend to be a little scared when it comes to big, important things? anyways, that's something for another day.

on a lighter note...i've got some possibly exciting news...a few days ago, the husband and i went for a walk around our neighborhood. well, now our walk we came across a house that was for rent. so, just for fun we called. we found out it was a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house that was priced within our budget. i immediately made an appointment to see it the next day. to be honest, i didn't have high hopes for it based on it's price...i just thought it would be too good too be true to find a decent house in our neighborhood at that price...well, let's just say, i was presently suprised. the first thing i saw was the granite coutertops, the bigger kitchen, the not green carpet, the beautiful light coming through the windows, the laundry right off the kitchen, the nice backyard...i can go on and on. don't get me wrong, there are some drawbacks...for instance, just 2 bathrooms, no walk-in closets, only one shower and it's a stall shower, the garage not connected to the house...i won't bore you with the rest. my point is, this house would be great for us...the kids would have their owns, which would solve a myriad of problems...but importantly there is a yard for einstein to play in...i've wanted a place with a yard for him to be able to play for so long. to top it off, the landlords are seem to be pretty nice too. there would be a few obstacles to cross if we were to move here...obstacles that could only be crossed with God, so i have a request. Would you pray for us, that if it's God will, He will work everything out and we would get the house...thanks so much! I will keep you posted.

Well, that's all i have to share for now...what about you? how have you been? how can i pray for you?

{thankful thursday: books}

the little princess at 2 months

I haven't done one of these in awhile and so I thought I was due. Today I am thankful for books. I know that may sound silly, but it's true.

Books enrich our lives so much I don't think we take the time to stop and realize it. The one book I most absolutely cannot live without is the Bible. There are days that I would be lost without it. To think what life would be like without it...I just don't want to know.

Books record our history. They give us knowledge. They teach us. There is nothing like a good book.

What is one book you cannot live without?

{jane austen for babies}

now that my little princess is getting older (10 months old now, gasp!) she likes to sit and read more.

if you don't know already, i am an avid reader myself. I can finish a 300 page book in a day or two. I wanted to instill my love of reading into my kids. I believe in starting young. einstein grew up going to libraries. in fact, we have a video of him when he's about 2 years old and the talks about going to the library. he had quiet of library of books for being a baby and he still does today. if you walk into his room one of the first things you see is his tall 5 shelf bookcase almost packed with books. lately he's been so engrossed in reading that he will actually ask me if we can turn off the tv during "cuddle time".

the other day, as i was picking a book to read to the little princess before nap time i realized what a small selection of books she actually had. all the board books she has are the same one's i had for einstein and so most of them are about trucks, bulldozers, and such. i wanted to find some "little girl" board books for my princess and so i started searching on amazon. it was during my search that i came across Pride and Prejudice.

Pride & Prejudice: A BabyLit Board Book (English and English Edition)
via amazon.com

i couldn't believe my eyes...one of my favorite books made for my little princess, could it be so? i immediately clicked to look inside. it is really rather cute. you must click on the book above and check it out.

not only do they have Pride and Prejudice, but they also have Romeo and Juliet and Jane Erye. i am thinking of getting Pride and Prejudice and a few others...i will let you know what i decided...till then..happy reading!

what are some of your favorite board books?

{ a little bit about me...and some embarrassing photos}

i am goofy...i try to be funny, try is the operative word...i usually just end up just cracking myself up...this is me trying to be funny.

this is as close as i've ever come to being blonde.

every time i try to pose "naturally" for pictures i end up looking someone is holding me hostage. you wouldn't know it from this picture, but i had just gotten engaged and i was trying to show off my beautiful engagement ring.

the beach is one of my favorite places...i love the beach!

some people think i'm very serious and reserved...this is my attempt to prove them wrong.

my husband likes to take close up pictures like this...i tell him he's going to break the camera, he says their beautiful...we agree to disagree.

another one of my husband's impromtu close up...this one i actually like.

plumeria is one of my most favorite flowers...i have a small plumeria tree and i am hoping it blooms this summer.

almost all the pictures of me and the husband are like this (minus our wedding pictures)...mostly because he is always holding the camera...these are our "camera" smiles.

this is being our goofy selves.

i hope my goofy pictures made you laugh...and i hope you know a little bit more about me...now it's your turn tell me a little something goofy about you!

today i am guest posting over at Rags to Stiches...make sure you head on over to see the fun little diy i shared.

{what's on my mind...randomness}

things have been crazy busy around here.

for the last two weeks, the little princess and i have been holed up in the house because we were sick...now that we're finally better i can't wait for things to be back to normal.

i have been diligently working on some new fascinators for the shop...i hope to be adding them the shop this weekend.

my little princess turned 10 months old on tuesday!

now that i have 2 kids, time seems to fly by faster than ever.

einstein started baseball a weeks ago...what a difference a year makes...he can catch and throw so well now.

my little princess is a crawling terror! she gets into everything and tries to eat every little speck on the carpet.

over the weekend we celebrated my sisters 21st birthday...sometimes i can't believe i used to change her diapers.

i made homemade au gratin potatos last night for dinner...they came out so good! i will never buy box again.

i've decided i need to purge my house of unnecessary things so i have started to spring clean a bit.

i have started to plan the little princesses first birthday...i'm not quiet sure what or where yet, but i do know that i want it to be absolutely adoreable and i want there to be striped paper straws.

i am trying to come up with a way to have a master family schedule for all of us to see...any one else do this? thoughts?

{i am a closet control freak}

So, I have never really considered myself a controlling kind of person. I mean, i do have tendencies for certain things to work out just right, but i never considered that to be "controlling".

last november, we were hit hard financially. it came completely out of the blue and as of today we are still dealing with it. now, i have had my share of financially difficulty, but nothing like this. this is scary. and the fact that there is literally nothing that i can do about it scares. and it has been during this time that i have realized that i am a closet control freak.

yes, i have admitted it. i am a closet control freak. you see i do not like that there is nothing i can do about my financial situation. in fact, the only thing i can do is just pray, and trust God that we will be ok. and as of late I have been doing a poor job at it. instead, i have been angry with God for allowing this to happen to us. and one day as i sat thinking about how angry i was i realized that the thing i was most angry about was that there was nothing "I" could about my situation. this "out of control" feeling that i was feeling was freaking me out. this unnerving feeling that the only thing i can do is just pray and trust scared me oh so much...and i must admit it still does just a little bit. and it was right then that i realized that i am a closet control freak. you see, i am so used to coming up with a cleaver way to "fix" my problems, but this i cannot fix--no way, no how. and that really scares me. in the end, i know this will work out somehow...i would like it to be sooner rather than later.

and the more i think about it, the more i realize that maybe God has allowed this to happen so that i would let go of my "closet control freak" and just give it all over to Him.

what about you? are you a closet control freak too?
